L.A. County Board Approves Ban on Plastic Bags
LOS ANGELES ( KTLA) -- Changes are coming to a store near you. The Los Angles County board of supervisors voted today to ban stores from using plastic bags.
The board approved the measure in hopes of curbing pollution, saying billions of bags end up polluting neighborhoods and waterways.
Beginning next year, stores will not be allowed to give single-use plastic bags to customers.
Customers who don't bring their own bags will be able to purchase paper bags for 10 cents each.
Opponents of the ban say they're concerned that jobs will be lost and low-income families will struggle with fees for paper and reusable bags.
