Custom Solutions Architect
The role of Custom Solutions Architect requires knowledge and skills that are both broad and deep. To be effective the Custom Solutions Architect must have experience on multiple Hardware and Software Environments and be comfortable with complex systems environments. The Custom Solutions Architect is senior technocrat who has led multiple projects through the Software development process or Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and has usually performed in a variety of different roles in that life cycle. Needed also is an uncanny ability to share and communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to Clients, executive staff, and technical resources in clear concise language that is the parlance of each group.
A practitioner of Solution Architecture, Systems engineering and Software engineering processes, the Custom Solutions Architect is the person who organizes the development effort of a systems solution. The Custom Solutions Architect is responsible for the development of the overall vision that underlies the projected solution and transforms that vision through execution into the solution. The Custom Solution Architect becomes involved with a project at the time of inception and is involved in the Functional analysis (FA) of developing the initial requirements. They then remain involved throughout the balance of the project.
Custom Solutions Architects decide which technologies to use. As the Company takes on new projects, the Custom Solutions Architect will be asked to identify applicable products and platforms to fill gaps in our offering, and bring them to bear against our many challenges and technologies, from rich-media handheld applications to Web 2.0 tools to large-scale data systems.
Custom Solutions Architects will Support sales by translating business requirements into specific systems, applications or Data integration plans, and presenting them to prospective clients.
This person will work closely with developers to ensure proper implementation. The Custom Solutions Architect is the link between the needs of the Clients and the developers. Oversee the completion of customer solutions and strategies based on the analysis of the customer's business goals, objectives, needs, and general business environment. A point person for developers as well as clients throughout the design, build and operations phases of each project
Provide both management and technical leadership.
Use project management tools to estimate projects and monitor project status.
Review completed proposals for technical integrity, quantification of risk, and strategic direction prior to presentation to customer.
Custom Solutions Architect required:
The Custom Solutions Architect is an expert in many categories.
They must have hands-on experience in multiple industries and across several disciplines.
Will be required to attain in-depth knowledge of the company’s functional areas, business strategies, and goals
They must have a mastery of various hardware platforms including mainframes, distributed platforms, desktops, and mobile devices. Akin to that they must also possess skill and understanding of a variety of Operating Systems including mainframe systems; UNIX, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, System V, Linux, Desktop; Windows, Apple OS, DOS and mobile platforms; Palm OS etc. A broad and deep understanding of Databases is also essential with knowledge of Relational Databases; Oracle, MYSQL, Sybase, DB2
Skills & Experience Required:
• 2+ years of experience scoping, estimating and successfully delivering large customer-facing applications or IT Integration projects.
• Expertise in several programming languages such as C++ or Java as well as OO design
• 5+ years of experience with server-side Java technologies and major application servers
• Strong SQL and data modeling skills, as well as real-world experience with commercial RDMBS.
• Understanding of common IT and Data integration techniques and processes.
• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Extremely strong fundamentals and analytical abilities
• Experience interacting and presenting directly with customers.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Taste for simplicity and elegance in technical design
• Experience leading small teams, establishing development practices, and mentoring individuals
Bonus points:
• Experience manipulating or integrating student data.
• Experience with Oracle. SQL and PL/SQL wizardry
• Fluency in scripting languages such as Python or Ruby.
