B2 to F1

Hello everyone
My sister is here on her Travel multi-visa. She is 15, and she wants to go to school here. Yesterday we went to the lawyer who said we should start a process of changing her B2 visa to F1. My question is - do we really need a lawyer to do that or can we file on our own? The reason I'm asking is because I filed everything on my own for my greencard (based on marriage) and got it less than in 4 month, even when I was warned many times that it's better to hire a lawyer for a case like that.
Has anyone changed B2 to F1 before? I would appreciate any information.

Можно и без лоера, я меняла доче B2 на F2 при сильно просроченном сроке выезда. Если очень надо, при уже поданных документах и возникших заморочках, можно обратиться к сенатору штата за помощью. А без лоера вполне можно и обойтись.

Once a person gets it, is she eligible for multiple entries in US? We have some vacations planned, and I want to make sure she can get in and out of the country if she gets F1 visa.

Вы не получите визу внутри США. Для этого надо выехать. Обычно студенческие визы рассчитаны на multiple entries.

Внутри страны Вы получаете бумажку, подтверждающую статус, а печать в паспорте (визу) можно получить только за пределами страны в посольстве. На сколько я знаю, для российских граждан были разные цены на визы с единичным въездом и визы с многочисленным въездом в Штаты, но это могло измениться.

Внутри страны Вы получаете бумажку, подтверждающую статус, а печать в паспорте (визу) можно получить только за пределами страны в посольстве.

А вот в посольстве своей страны, если виза B2 была не для prospective student, могут и отказать.

В посольстве своей страны отказ получить меньше вероятности, чем в посольстве чужой страны, проверено на собственном опыте. К тому же здесь речь идёт, на сколько я понимаю, о том, чтобы сначала поменять статус внутри страны, а потом уже ехать куда-то погулять заграницу.

I just talked to my lawyer and he said it would be I-539 form which is change of status and that my sister would not have to leave the country to get it....

Правильно, чтобы остаться в стране надо статус поменять, он позволяет оставаться в стране легально, но на въезд в страну никак не влияет. А вот если Вы хотите попутешествовать с сестрой за пределы США, то ей надо будет в посольство идти и делать визу, иначе в Штаты её обратно не пустят.

А у вас какая ситуация - дочь въезжала по визе B не как prospective student, и ей потом без проблем поменяли статус и поставили визу?
