Master degree, experience - how to find visa sponsoring job?

Даже не думал, что такой форум сущестрвует, спасибо другу - посоветовал посмотреть.

У меня вопрос к знающим людям по поводу поиска работы. Буду писать по-английски, поскольку много терминов.

I am a student in the graduate program in a university. The program is in accounting, lasts about 1.5 years, I will be done with summer (end of July). Good academic regord: GPA 4.0, perfect recommendations from professors. This is my second master's degree in accounting (the first one is from Ukraine - narhoz). No issues vis-a-vis 2 year requirement, ect. Everything is legal and in according to the law: now under F-1 visa. Yesterday, received my OPT (optional practical training) card, start date indicated is July 20, 2004.

I also have good experience in my field (a few years), good enlgish (spoken, etc.), and solid skills (computers, communication, etc.). For those who is familiar: I have CIA certification and will have CPA by end of 2004.

BUT: I cannot find a job. I talked to several companies (including Big Four accounting firms - KPMG, Deloitte, PwC, etc.) and they had been happy to hire me until they found out I would need work visa sponsorship when my OPT period is over.

Как быть в такой ситуации? Пока у меня есть ОРТ, я могу оставаться в штатах и без работы (пока денег хватит), а потом? Как найти работу, на которой бы меня проспонсировали визу в следующем году? К кому можно обратиться?

Буду очень благодарен за совет. Можно также в асю.

Игорь, ну что за вопросы? Что ты хочешь чтобы тебе здесь ответили? Где конкретно дают работу с визой???

Если ты в graduate school, то у вас должен быть carrer center или что-то типа этого, где вас должны учить как искать работу, давать всякие job hunting technics и сводить с работодателями. Кроме того, ты сам должен усиленно заниматься поиском, рассылать десятки, сотни резюме, следить за job postings на сайтах компаний, которые тебя интересуют, ходить на career fairs, общаться с headhunter компаниями итд. Может быть стоит согласиться на internship, даже на unpaid. Если ты понравишься, тебе предложат работу.

Если ты не из top business school, то шансы попасть в Big 5 практически равны нулю, поэтому чуть-чуть снизь планку. У тебя есть год. Главное постоянно искать. И ещё - если у тебя есть возможность самому заплатить за адвоката, который сделает тебе H1B, сразу говори компаниям на интервью, что всеми заботами по оформлению твоего статуса ты будешь заниматься сам.

Не получится - едь в Москву. Мой товарищ в Январе получил там работу в McKinsey. 120K.

По поводу career center - bad idea. Я к ним ходил, меня там уже все по имени и фамилии знают, я там тоже уже всех знаю, и имена членов всех их семей знаю, т.д. Они ничем конкретным помочь не могут, разве что рассказать, как правильно резюме сочинить (я моге их большему в этом плане научить - поэтому делай вывод насчет их уровня).

Все остальные техники тоже прорабатываю параллельно: рассылаю резюме (уже около 800 шт. будет, я думаю), на сайтах регистрируюсь, на всякие собрания хожу, этс. Результата никакого - поэтому и обратился за помощью.

По поводу intership - very good idea, even though I am a bit late with that. I wanted to graduate as soon as possible and to get to work without interships. The idea was that I already have required work experience, inlcuding one year in one of the big four (Ernst & Young). Btw, there are four of them left now. Andersen does not exist any more (after Enron and Co.). So, I had a true beleif that I did not need another intership. Sad now

I know that it's possible to get into big four. The problem is visa only: all the graduates from my school (american students) all got positions with big four - no problem.

I did not quite get the idea with immigration attorney: you mentioned I need to do it myself. But as far as I know, it's the employer who must go on with preparing and submitting all documents. Is it right? I talked to several HR managers in companies who told me that a potential employee cannot directly work with INS regarding work visa...?

Moscow - that's a back up. But let me ask you a question: what level did you friend get into if he/she gets 120K right away? As far as I know senior managers in Moscow offices of the big four companies do not receive that much? And a regular auditor (2-3 years in a company) gets about 1.5-2K/month, gross.

Of course, you can't go directly to INS regarding your work visa. However, you can hire an attorney who will prepare all needed papers for INS. In that case you would need to tell your employer that your attorney will take the burden of your immigration status preparation off employer's shoulders. This might help. I heard some people did that getting into smaller companies. I am not sure about big companies though.

My friend is an associate at McKinsey which is, as you probably know, a leading consulting firm.

OK, understood. I talked to one immigration attorney and he told me it costs about $1,500 to proceed with all documents for a work visa. Quite a lot, but we will see. Thanks for clarification.

Suprisingly high salary for an assosiate. Well, I know that McKinsey hires experienced people even for assiciate positions, but still - impressive I might think about consulting instead of accounting/auditing

Anyways, I would appreciate any addition information if any.

I obichno eto delajut bol'shije korporaciji, t.k. dlia nih eta cena smeshnaja plius im vigodno v plane nalogov kogda berut international'a na rabotu.
ja sama sizhu kazhdij den' otsilaju eti reziume, no oni kak v chiornuju diiru propadajut. i kogda ja upominaju hcot mne nuzhen sponsorship, otvet srazu: "sorry , you did not pass the interview". no tebe mozhno real'no vziat' internship i sovsem ne besplatnij.

privet!! ti znajesh ja bila v nachale na J-1, potom na turisticheskoj i sejchas na studencheskoj. no ponimajehs u menia 2.5 goda bankovksogo experienca. jelsi ja pojdu v private college, to tam mne budut snova oformliat' studencheskuju vizu or whatever. a dlia postuplenija nado GMAT (eto fignia) i pokazat chto jest' work experience gde to 3 goda. nu on u menia i jest'. a po pravilam vizi rabotat' zhe nel'zia i sejchas ja nemnogo v panike iz za etogo. ponimaesh? iz mojih znakomih nikto na MBA poka ne shiol. a kto zakonchili UW to nashli raboti dostatochno legko s BA. no sam ponimajesh kakaja raznica mezhdu state i private college v cene. a kak ti BA zakonchil doma?
tak chto ja bojus' chto pridiotsia idti na second major, no nado budet sprosit' mojego advisora v kolledzhe chio delat'!
v kakoj univer ti hodil? ja sejchas planiruju perejezhat' v milvoki, no ceni chto v UW chto Marquette mrachni. :x
