Travel Document - when to apply?

Good morning
I just filed my papers for change of status and now I wonder if I can file I-131? My husband and I want to go to Moscow this summer to see my parents, but it looks like I -131 is only for emergency travel...
Is it true or can I ask for advance parole?

You could file it together with the rest of applications. Certainly can file it now. It doesn't have to be an emergency.

As for me, I applied for the Advance Parole in order to go to Russia before I get my Green Card (which I am still waiting for), 'cos it's quicker to get this document. Although, a couple of my friends went to Russia as soon as they received their GC (they didn't apply for Travel Document). Of course, it's if there's no emergency.
