Многое зависит от штата и города где вы подавали документы.

it takes quite long in Chicago from the date of filing the packet of documents for AOS until the interview - it took me 26 months, so if at the moment of the interview you have been married for at least 2 years, then you get the permanent GC right away, and there is no 2nd interview needed.
    Have you gotten married already?

I also would like to ask a question, If I can? Just last week, my friends friend told me recently, she (US Citizen) married in 2001 a guy who overstaid his visa, but they got intervew, he got his conditional Green Card, since then nothing! When they send forms to change his Conditional Card to Permanent, the INS refused! Instead they had received a letter for a second Intervew! I know for a fact by this time he should be preparing for a Citizenship, because of time line. What do you think can be wrong?

what do you mean "refused"? they didn't sent him a letter of denial, did they? they just invited him for a second interview. There is nothing uncommon in it, not everyone gets their conditional GC changed for a permanent one automatically without a 2nd interview. I don't think they should worry.

Sorry, not refused, but did not explained why a Permanent Creen card cannot be giving to him now. What I understood, they have recieved a letter from Immigration, that a second Intervew will be arrange before anything going further...
I was surprised, because we are having same time line with this couple, the only difference we have 4 months between. We (my husband and myself) had one intervew only! And this February Im going for my Citizenship!
Hearing this story was unbeliviable! What can be wrong?

well, the reason could be that he overstayed his visa, but not necessarily
I am sure they will give him the permanent GC after the interview, they just want to make sure that the marriage is not fake, and he didn't do it just to legalize himself
nothing is wrong, just a procedure
he can still file for citizenship after 2 years and 9 months since his conditional green card was issued to him
so, he will not be even wasting any time

I hope so... The only thing what I heard, while living here he always tried to do ''funny'' things, meaning being smarter than the law in this country, or lets say doing things illigally. For example, being a Conditional Card Holder he finds someone to invite his son through a friend(US Citizen),his wife did not know about! While his son was a Criminal, (imeya sudimost za vorovstvo) in Former Russia, so the visa was not giving to his son. And who knows what else they got on this guy? Dont fool Immigration, thats what Im trying to say! So, maybe this is one of the reasons?
