обращаетесь в консульство вашей страны в америке и подаете на новый паспорт.

she is applying for the AOS; the Russian Consulate in the USA accepts pending status as legal and issues new passports. Such was my case a couple of years ago and everything went fine. The only thing was that when I filed the application with the Russian consulate to change my expiring passport, I spelt my last name the new way (hyphanated, maiden-married), so the Russian consulate sent it back to me and requested I fill out a new application with just my maiden name only (the way I am registered in Russia, as they don't care that I have gotten married and changed my name here..)
so, just spell your maiden name only, it will save you some time:34:

А моя жена хотела белорусский паспорт поменять, но у нее не было ГК (самого пластика), потому что, conditional expired, а постоянная еще не пришла (хотя бумага про pending была) - сказали вот получишь ГК, тогда и обращайся.

Спасибочки. Значит сначала мне надо дождаться pending status. А сколько по времени заняло получение паспорта? примерно.

Я не врубаюсь в 2 пункта:
1. О каком паспорте идет речь?
2. Што такое пендинг статус и при чем здесь ГК?

Я сама меняю свой загранпаспорт сейчас через посольство (Россия).
Подала документы в июле, обещали через полгода выдать.
Насколько я поняла, раньше чем через полгода - нереально.
Статус у меня - [J-1], то бишь почти никакой. Но легалный, да.

Процедура получения нового паспорта подробно описана на сайте посольства.

Правда, я так поняла, што легче всего менять паспорт сразу в России, через разные там турфирмы (можно найти). Штобы кто-нить из знакомых сходил и за тебя документы подал. Нелегальный путь, но быстрый. Я уже тысячу раз пожалела што так не сделала.
