The impact of REAL ID's de facto national ID card requirement will be felt mostly by US citizens, and not by the undocumented. Enforcement of REAL ID by those who have to administer it on a day-to-day basis will lead to the unintended consequences of racial profiling coupled with the inevitable increase in the time
for every US citizen to obtain a drivers license at the Department of Motor Vehicles. It is possible that Congress will have to undo REAL ID before it takes effect in DMVs across the country. The anti-immigrationists' efforts are futile because they are fighting globalization and immigration which are two of
the strongest and irreversible historical trends of our time.
