Those losses only added to the misery that has already wiped out approximately 80% of the companies' share values this year. And the takeover plans, while leaving Fannie and Freddie able to continue operating, would leave the remaining shareholders with nearly nothing, diluting the companies' common stock but not wiping it out.

Under the terms of the proposal, the government would make periodic injections of funds by buying either convertible preferred shares or warrants in the two companies as needed, as opposed to a large, up-front cost.
The delusion won’t happen tomorrow or within one month. What going to happen tomorrow for common holders is:
- new management
- elimination of dividends
- lots of different interpretations by media
It means there are still a lot of opportunities to trade this stock back and forth

I think since gold is considered a hedge against inflation and the oil and other commodities are coming down, lower price of gold is indication of a lesser expectations of inflationary pressures.
