Mexicans in the West),
Outside of religious considerations, many dads-to-be first thoughts are "I don't want my son to look different from other boys in the locker room." That's what my husband said when we began researching circumcision for our son. And then we wondered, how many babies are being circumcised every year now? We know it was really common back when he was a kid, but what about today?
Where you live matters as far as "locker room stats" will go. The most recent statistics from hospitals show across the US as a whole that 56.1% of boys were cut in 2006. But that number drops dramatically in the West, with only 33.8% of boys getting the procedure. The rate is highest in the North Central region of the US where 77.9% were circumcised in 2006. 55.3% in the South and 63.6% in the Northeast. Over time, the trend in the US is on the decline. Check out graphs HERE.
