А почему криво?

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The immigration debate again has people at odds. On Saturday, families who say they've been hurt by immigration policies are telling their stories to lawmakers. But they were also met with protestors.
During Saturday's community meeting, Hispanic leaders say a 17-year- old girl broke down crying, describing how her mother and father had been deported, leaving her, a U.S. citizen, behind.
Immigration reform advocates hoped her story would generate sympathy for immigrants. But they also knew enough to expect it would attract critics.
As Hispanic leaders gathered inside Houston's Alpha and Omega Church to call for immigration reform, protesters clashed outside. One side was crying out for the safety of our country. The other, for compassion toward its immigrants. And both wanted change.

"We deal with this issue literally every day in our offices," said Houston Congressman Gene Green.
Congressman Green hosted Saturday's 'Family Unity' event to gather signatures on a petition, calling for the president to pass legislation by the end of the year to allow thousands of immigrants already in the U.S. to stay here.
"Why would we deport a mother and father if their child is a U.S. citizen?" said
But the group, Borderwatch, believes lawmakers should prioritize homeland security.
"We need to secure our borders and then we can talk about the details of people who are here," said
Their message, at one point, made its way inside the church to interrupt the events inside, showing there's no sacred ground in this debate.
Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus are travelling to 23 cities across the country to hold these family unity events. Organizers say they've faced protests everywhere they go.

Schumer Pushes Amnesty Bill by Labor Day, Despite the Objections of the American People
Last week, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), chairman of the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, declared that he expects to have a new amnesty bill ready by Labor Day. (The Associated Press, July 8, 2009). This announcement came on the heels of a report released by an Independent Task Force of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) (The Washington Post, July 9, 2009), co-chaired by former Florida governor Jeb Bush and former Clinton White House chief of staff Thomas McLarty. The Task Force concluded that an amnesty program "is necessary and warranted for many illegal immigrants living in the United States." (Council on Foreign Relations Independent Task Force Report No. 63, July 8, 2009).
Senator Schumer's declaration and the conclusion of the CFR Task Force are out-of-touch with the views of the American people as evidenced by a recently released Rasmussen poll. According to Rasmussen, this latest push for amnesty comes at a time when most voters don't view immigration as a priority issue. Instead of passing an amnesty bill, 66% of likely voters say it is very important for the government to improve its enforcement of the borders and reduce illegal immigration. In addition, 75% of voters believe that the federal government is not doing enough to secure the nation's borders. (Rasmussen Reports, July 7, 2009). The American people understand that amnesty would allow the more than 12 million illegal aliens in the United States to begin openly competing for any available jobs with the nearly 14.7 million American workers who are currently out of work. (See FAIR's Amnesty and Joblessness Report, July 2009).

Pass ID - Taking Security Back to September 10, 2001
From FAIR's Government Relations team
In response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Congress passed the REAL ID Act. REAL ID establishes uniform security requirements for State-issued drivers' licenses and identification cards. On June 15, 2009, Senator Daniel Akaka (D-HI) introduced legislation (S. 1261) entitled "Providing for Additional Security in States' Identification Act of 2009" (PASS ID). PASS ID will repeal many key provisions of REAL ID related to national security and immigration enforcement. Accordingly, PASS ID will re-establish many of the security and immigration loopholes that allowed the 9/11 highjackers to carry out the attack on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center.
