The Clash "London Calling"




The Clash were an English rock band active from 1976 to 1986. One of the most successful and iconic bands from the original wave of punk rock in the late 1970s, they went on to incorporate punk with reggae, rockabilly, dance, jazz, ska, and eventually many other music styles into their repertoire. They were legendary for their intense stage performances.
From their earliest days as a band, the Clash stood apart from their punk peers with their musicianship, as well as their lyrics; the passionate, left wing political idealism in the lyrics of frontmen Joe Strummer and Mick Jones contrasted with the anarchic nihilism of the Sex Pistols and the basic simplicity of the Ramones. Although they were a major success in the UK from the release of their first album in 1977, they did not become popular in the US until 1980.



Their third album, the late 1979 release London Calling is considered by many critics to be one of the greatest albums in the history of rock music; it was released in the US in January 1980, and a decade later Rolling Stone magazine declared it the best album of the 1980s. Rolling Stone also placed it at #8 on their list in 2003 of the 500 Greatest Rock Albums.
The Clash's attitude and style, as much as their music, strongly influenced countless other bands. In 2003 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Joan Jett "I Love Rock And Roll"



Joan Jett (b. September 22, 1960) is an American rock and roll guitarist, singer, producer and actress. She is best known for her hit single "I Love Rock 'N Roll," which was #1 on the Billboard charts from March 20 to May 8 of 1982, as well as for her other popular recordings including "Crimson and Clover", "Do You Wanna Touch Me", "Light of Day", "I Hate Myself For Loving You", "Little Liar" and "Love Is All Around".



"I Love Rock 'N Roll" is on the list of top 100 songs of the twentieth century, according to The National Endowment for the Arts. The song was ranked at number 484 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs.

The Clash "Should I Stay or Should I Go"



"Should I Stay Or Should I Go" is a song by The Clash, released as a 7" single and featured on their album Combat Rock (In the United Kingdom the album charted at #2 spending 23 weeks in the UK charts. The album reached #7 in the United States spending 61 weeks on the chart and was certified platinum). This single became the band's only one to reach number 1 on the charts, though a decade after it was originally released.

The tune is perhaps the most traditionally Clash-like track on the album, leaning towards a retro punk rock sound. The song was written in 1981, and though some observers see the song as a possible comment by Mick Jones on his position in the band, and his impending expulsion from it, it actually primarily regards Jones' personal life. At the time he was in a rocky relationship with Ellen Foley that would soon implode, and the song is an argument over the problem of whether he should stick with the relationship or move on to better things.

In March of 1991, the band allowed the song to be used in a commercial for Levi's. The single was re-released and on the back of the commercial it made it to number 1 in the UK.

Motörhead "The Game"



Motörhead are a British heavy metal band formed in 1975 by bassist, singer and songwriter Lemmy Kilmister (real name Ian Kilmister) after his ejection from the iconic space-rock band Hawkwind. The name was derived from a slang term for an amphetamine user.

It has been said that "Motörhead's" overwhelmingly loud and fast style of heavy metal was one of the most groundbreaking styles the genre had to offer in the late '70s" and suggests that their blending of punk rock's speed and attitude with more traditional heavy metal "created speed metal and thrash metal."[1] Whether they created these genres might be subject to debate, but Motörhead was unquestionably influential.
While the band are typically classified as heavy metal or speed metal, Kilmister, just like AC/DC's Angus and Malcolm Young, has refused such labels, preferring to describe Motörhead's style simply as "rock and roll." Motörhead's lyrics cover such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse, and "life on the road" (the latter is portrayed in songs like "(We Are) The Road Crew", "Iron Horse/Born to Lose", and "Keep Us on the Road")...

GEORGE HARRISON "HERE COMES THE SUN"



George Harrison , MBE (25 February 1943 – 29 November 2001) was a popular English guitarist, singer, songwriter, record producer, and film producer.
Harrison was the lead guitarist of The Beatles. During the band’s phenomenally successful career, John Lennon and Paul McCartney were its main songwriters. However, Harrison generally wrote and/or sang lead on one or two songs for each album. His compositions earned him growing admiration as a considerable talent in his own right. Although he wrote some of the Beatles' best known songs, he was overshadowed by the Lennon/McCartney duo. However, as the years went on as a member of The Beatles, Harrison grew as an artist.
While still a Beatle, Harrison became attracted to Indian music and Hinduism. Both would subsequently play a prominent role in Harrison’s life and music.
Harrison also had an uneven but sometimes very successful solo career after the break-up of The Beatles, scoring major hits with "My Sweet Lord" (1970), "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)" (1973), "All Those Years Ago" (1981), and "Got My Mind Set on You" (1987). Harrison's landmark album, All Things Must Pass, currently holds the title of the best selling album by a solo Beatle[1]. He also organized the first large-scale benefit concert, The Concert For Bangladesh, which took place on 1 August 1971. Harrison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2004.[2]

Rainbow "The Temple Of The King"



Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (1975) is the first LP released by Rainbow. Some of the songs of this album appeared on a live album On Stage in 1977. Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow was re-issued in the US in April 1999. "Black Sheep of the Family" was a cover of an old Quatermass song, and "Still I'm Sad" a cover of a Yardbirds track. Despite the only moderate chart success this album provided to the band, many musicians consider this album to be one of hard rock's finest moments. Backing singer Shoshana Feinstein was Blackmore's girlfriend at the time.

Steve Vai "For The Love Of God"




Passion and Warfare is a 1990 instrumental album from virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai. It has been certified 2 times Platinum. It was written based on a series of dream sequences that Vai had when he was younger, and in the guitar music book of the album, Vai sums it up as 'Jimi Hendrix meets Jesus Christ at a party that Ben Hur threw for Mel Blanc'. It was all recorded in 'The Mothership' studio at his home in the Hollywood Hills, a 1600 square foot building where his guitar parts for Whitesnake's album "Slip of the Tongue" were also recorded. Vai has many strange recording techniques, and for one of Passion and Warfare's tracks, "For The Love Of God", he fasted for 10 days to create the correct mindset he felt would give feeling to his playing in the song.

Eric Clapton "Tears in Heaven"



"Tears in Heaven" is a heartfelt ballad written and performed by Eric Clapton about the pain he felt following the 1991 death of his 4-year-old son, Conor, who fell from a 53rd story window in his mother's New York City condominium. By all accounts, the death appeared to be simply a tragic accident, and Clapton was distraught for months afterwards.[1]
Co-written by Clapton and Will Jennings, the song was initially featured on the soundtrack to the film Rush, and it won a Grammy for Song of the Year in 1993. It was also included on Clapton's Grammy award-winning album, Unplugged. It is #353 on Rolling Stone's Top 500 Songs.

Kiss "Calling Dr. Love"




Rock and Roll Over (November 11, 1976) - is the fifth studio album and sixth overall by hard/glam rock band KISS.
Unlike Destroyer, which was recorded with members of the New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra, Rock and Roll Over was recorded by just Stanley, Frehley, Simmons, and Criss. The album was a return to the more straight-ahead rock sound heard on the group's first three albums.
In order to achieve the required drum sound for Rock and Roll Over, Peter Criss played in a bathroom at the Star Theatre and communicated with the rest of the band via a video link. Criss's vocals are featured on the track, "Hard Luck Woman." Paul Stanley, who originally wrote the song for Rod Stewart, gave it to Peter Criss, who possessed a similar voice, after Criss insisted he sing the song instead. Although the single did not equal the success of "Beth," it did become another Top 20 single for the group. Rock and Roll Over was the first KISS album to ship gold, and from there had a meteoric rise to double platinum status.
The original LP release included a replica of the cover art as a set of peel-off stickers.




"Calling Dr. Love" is a song by the American hard rock band KISS, originally released on their 1976 album Rock and Roll Over. The song was written by KISS bassist/lead vocalist Gene Simmons. It was the second single released from the album, and the group's third consecutive Top 20 US single.[1] The song's title came from an episode of the Three Stooges of the same name.
A live version of the song was included on Alive II, released later in 1977. Since then, "Calling Dr. Love" has appeared on numerous KISS compilation albums. In 2003, it appeared on KISS's fifth live album, KISS Symphony: Alive IV.
In 1994, the song was recorded and re-arranged by the one-off supergroup Shandi's Addiction (vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Billy Gould, and drummer Brad Wilk) as part of the KISS tribute album KISS My Ass: Classic KISS Regrooved. The band's name was taken from "Shandi," a song from the 1980 KISS album Unmasked.

Black Sabbath " Zero The Hero"



Born Again is Black Sabbath's eleventh studio album, released in August 1983. It was panned by critics at the time of its release, but reached #4 in the UK charts as well as the top 40 in the U.S. and has gained a strong following among a number of fans.
The album features the vocals of Ian Gillan, former singer for Deep Purple, who joined the band in 1983 to replace departed vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Original Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward returned to the band as a replacement for Vinny Appice, who had left with Dio to form the band Dio, but quit the band right before the 1983 tour. It is also notable in that many purist fans consider it to be the last "true" Sabbath album, as its follow-up, Seventh Star, included only one original Sabbath member (Iommi) and was intended to be a Iommi solo project...
