(самый крупный цветок в мире) (Several species of Rafflesia grow in the jungles of Southeast Asia, all of them threatened or endangered. Rafflesia arnoldii is the largest; its blossom attains a diameter of nearly a meter and can weigh up to 11 kg. Not only is it the world's largest flower, it is one of the most bizarre and improbable organisms on the planet.
It produces no leaves, stems or roots but lives as a parasite on the Tetrastigma vine, which grows only in primary (undisturbed) rainforest. Only the flower or bud can be seen; the rest of the plant exists only as filaments within its unfortunate host. The blossom is pollinated by flies attracted by its scent, which resembles that of carrion.)

(It can tower to a height of 6 feet or more and opens to a diameter of three to four feet. Hardly less remarkable than the flower's immense size is its exceptionally foul odor, designed by nature to attract the carrion beetles and dung beetles that pollinate it.

Deep inside the protective folds of the Titan's petal-like spathe, the male and female flowers mature at different times, which means the plant cannot self-pollinate. In the absence of a second plant in bloom nearby, human intervention is necessary. John Trager, whose work as curator of the desert collection frequently involves hand-pollination of succulents, volunteered his expertise. Several pollen samples were extracted and applied to the receptive females over the course of 14 hours. One of the more unusual techniques involved using a bag of rotting apples, where the ethylene gas produced by the fruit could accelerate the ripening of the pollen. If any or all of the pollination tests proved successful, the plant would bear fruit and eventually yield seed.)

Ух-ти, какые цвыточки... Я где-то когда-то читал, что у них аромат гниющего мяса... Но подобных фоток не видел... Спасыбо... Минерал рассыпался... в благодарностях...

Черно-белое дырево - прикольная фотка! Уипечатляет!

А оранжевые ягодки - это пальма... Я такие видел у нас в ботаническом саду.... Крюто!

не, не пальма.. это всё тот же цветок.. оранжевые ягодки - соцветия в зародышевой стадии.. так что благодарностей не надо, будешь должен..


а мне больше осень понра.. крашеные стволы - как пуанты балерин.. вот-вот заиграет после паузы музыка и они закружатся в танце
