А затем, что без паспорта в самолет не посадят и в Канаду не пустят. Такие сейчас правила, не только обладателям гринкарт, но вообще всем при полетах в Канаду и обратно нужно иметь паспорт.

А чего так нервничать то?
Мне интересно нужна ли мне виза в канаду или нет, зачем пасспорт если визы в нем не будет?
