p.s. you are saing that McDowell was sort of blacklisted after appearing in it; and thats the mailn reason why didn't have more of A-level film career
but Peter O'Toole and John Gielgood were in it as well; didn't ruion their careers, while O'Toole's best hits were in the 60s (Dr Zhivago, Becket, Lion in Winter, HOw to Steal a Million), he still had respectful career later on including best picture winner 'Last Emperor'.
Helen Mirren had a pretty succesfull career afterwords as well.

Look at it the other way; she is still a star at 60, and had some pretty good films in the last 15 years - Gosford Park, Madness of King George, Elizabeth I.

she is about the same age as Mia Farrow, and only few years younger then Faye Dunaway and Katherine Ross. When was the last time they had a succesfull film, not to mention leading role ?
Can't say 'Caligula' ruined her career.
