Massage Therapist Pleads Guilty to Sexual Battery

A Russian "healer" who pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery will have to register as a sex offender for life, but he will be allowed to continue working as massage therapist.

Vasiliy Galashev, who also goes by Ardy Galash and bills himself as a seventh-generation Tibetan healer, will get probation and credit for jail time already served when he is sentenced Oct. 6.

Galashev will have to register as a sex offender for life, but will be allowed to continue working as a massage therapist.

Judge David Danielsen ordered the defendant released from custody after Galashev entered his plea Thursday.

Last month, a jury acquitted Galashev of five counts of rape and molestation involving one woman and deadlocked on nine other counts involving four other alleged victims.

As part of the plea agreement, Deputy District Attorney Rachel Cano said her office won't file any new charges involving complaints from other women.

Galashev, 50, was accused of sexually assaulting the four women between 2002 and 2004.

A 22-year-old woman, who emigrated as a child with her family from the Ukraine, testified that Galashev raped her repeatedly and sexually assaulted her when she went to him for treatment for migraine headaches.

The woman said she didn't know that what Galashev was doing was a sex act.

She said she never had a boyfriend and only took a sex education class in the sixth grade.

Early on in the treatments, Galashev told the woman she couldn't have children, and her "chakras" or "energy centers" were blocked, she testified.

A 61-year-old woman testified that Galashev raped her when she went to him for massage treatment after recovering from breast cancer.

"I kept trusting him," the woman testified. "He was supposed to be a (seventh-generation Tibetan healer)."

Galashev, originally from the Russian republic of Kalmykia, worked out of offices in Poway, Rancho Bernardo and Los Angeles.

He was ordered to stay away from the named victims in the case.
