How do I book a flight for an infant?
Before beginning the booking process, please note, according to the airlines, the distinction between an infant, child, and youth:
An infant must be under 2 years old by the time all travel is complete.
A child is between the ages of 2 and 11.
A youth is between the ages of 12 and 17.
To book a flight for an infant, please go through the following steps:
Go to the Flights tab.
Select the number of infants traveling and whether they will be an:
Infant in lap (under 2 yrs):
An "infant in lap" usually flies for free on U.S. domestic flights. On international flights, an "infant in lap" often incurs airfare charges, usually a percentage of the adult fare.
Is eligible for an e-ticket (electronic ticket).
Infant in seat (under 2 yrs):
An "infant in seat" will incur an airfare charge that may be lower than an adult or child fare.
A paper ticket is required for an "infant in seat". Paper tickets incur an additional non-refundable shipping fee.
