Глобальная информационная сеть не только продолжает дело, начатое письменностью,
но и расширяет групповую память людей - вероятно,
в степени, достаточной для качественных изменений в мышлении - «Социальная память» группы состоит из совокупности личной памяти всех участников и их метапамяти (знаний о том, кто из других членов группы является экспертом по тому или иному вопросу). Интернет, продолжая начатое письменностью, расширяет трансактивную память настолько, что это влечёт за собой качественные изменения в мышлении. PS: Transactive memory is a psychological hypothesis first proposed by Daniel Wegner in 1985 as a response to earlier theories of "group mind" such as groupthink.[1] A transactive memory system is a system through which groups collectively encode, store, and retrieve knowledge. Transactive memory suggests an analysis not only of how couples and families in close relationships coordinate memory and tasks at home, but how teams, larger groups and organizations come to develop a "group mind",[1] a memory system that is more complex and potentially more effective than that of any of the individuals that comprise it.

According to Wegner, a transactive memory system consists of the knowledge stored in each individual's memory combined with metamemory containing information regarding the different teammate's domains of expertise.[2] Just as the individual's metamemory allows him to be aware of what information is available for retrieval, so does the transactive memory system provide teammates with information regarding the knowledge they have access to within the team.[3] Group members learn who knowledge experts are and how to access expertise through communicative processes. In this way, a transactive memory system can provide the group members with more and better knowledge than any individual could access on his own.

Исследователям удалось установить нейронные пути, по которым происходит обмен информацией между функциональными зонами мозга. Удалось обнаружить существование сложнейшей нейронной сети, связывающей разные регионы мозга, и эта сеть, по-видимому, является общей среди приматов. Мозг делится на ряд функциональных зон, которых у макак насчитывается 83, а у человека — 120. Эти зоны находятся в постоянном общении друг с другом, чтобы организовывать поступающую информацию и координировать наше поведение. Учёным удалось построить карту «путей сообщения» между такими зонами.

Согласно проведённому анализу,
близлежащие функциональные зоны поддерживают между собой и более тесные контакты: число нейронных «дорог» между ними много больше, чем между районами, расположенными на значительном расстоянии.

Скорее всего, дальние соединения работают чем-то вроде переключателей, которые управляют интенсивностью информационного обмена внутри мозговых «суперрегионов».

Несмотря на то что

01-AUG-2011.. Мозг человека достиг предела развития: Стать умнее людям не судьба - К таким, вероятно, неожиданным для себя, выводам пришли британские ученые из Кембриджского университета. Их теория опирается на тот факт, что человеческому мозгу требуется для работы очень много энергии, а предел ее потребления уже достигнут.

Исследователи проанализировали структуру мозга и подсчитали, сколько энергии используют клетки серого вещества. Чем активнее работает мозг, тем больше ему требуется энергии. Причем увеличить ее потребление человек не сможет. Мозг и так забирает себе львиную ее долю. Как известно, вес мозга составляет примерно 2% от общей массы тела, но при этом он потребляет 20% всей энергии. Мы показали, что для работы мозг должен потреблять энергию и его потребности накладывают значительные ограничения на нашу производительность, а также они определяют само устройство мозга", - цитирует The Sun профессора Саймона Лафлина.

Как добавил другой ученый, Эд Баллмор, человек таким образом расплачивается за свой ум. Если он хочет стать сообразительнее, то для этого необходимо улучшить взаимосвязи между разными отделами мозга. Это невозможно потому, что для их работы необходимо такое количество энергии, которое человеческий организм не сможет предоставить. Кроме того, в черепной коробке просто не хватит места.

Его коллега профессор Лафлин предупредил, что если человек не сможет стать умнее, то поглупеть он сумеет точно. Если условия жизни ухудшаться и еды будет меньше, то мозг приспособится к изменившейся ситуации и сократится в размере, чтобы сэкономить ресурсы.

PS: Недавно ученые сделали еще одно интересное открытие. Оказывается, маразм является уникальным свойством людей. У наших ближайших родственников - человекообразных обезьян - ничего подобного нет. IBM to Collaborate with Nuance to Apply IBM’s "Watson" Analytics Technology to Healthcare: Joint Research Effort to Integrate IBM’s Watson and Nuance’s Voice and Clinical Language Solutions to Provide Enhanced Access to Critical and Timely information
ARMONK, N.Y. & BURLINGTON, Mass. -

17-Feb-2011: IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) today announced a research agreement to explore, develop and commercialize the Watson computing system's advanced analytics capabilities in the healthcare industry.

The research and technology initiative will combine
IBM’s Deep Question Answering (QA), Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning capabilities with Nuance's speech recognition and Clinical Language Understanding (CLU) solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of patients that provide hospitals, physicians and payers access to critical and timely information.

The two companies expect the first commercial offerings from the collaboration to be available in 18-24 months.

Additionally, Columbia University Medical Center and the University of Maryland School of Medicine are contributing their medical expertise and research to the collaborative effort. For example, physicians at Columbia University are helping identify critical issues in the practice of medicine where the Watson technology may be able to contribute, and physicians at the University of Maryland are working to identify the best way that a technology like Watson could interact with medical practitioners to provide the maximum assistance.

Watson's ability to analyze the meaning and context of human language, and quickly process information to find precise answers can assist decision makers, such as physicians and nurses, unlock important knowledge and facts buried within huge volumes of information, and offer answers they may not have considered to help validate their own ideas or hypotheses.

"Combining our analytics expertise with the experience and technology of Nuance, we can transform the way that healthcare professionals accomplish everyday tasks by enabling them to work smarter and more efficiently," said Dr. John E. Kelly III, senior vice president and director of IBM Research. “This initiative demonstrates how we plan to apply Watson's capabilities into new areas, such as healthcare with Nuance.”

For example, a doctor considering a patient's diagnosis could use Watson's analytics technology, in conjunction with Nuance’s voice and clinical language understanding solutions, to rapidly consider all the related texts, reference materials, prior cases, and latest knowledge in journals and medical literature to gain evidence from many more potential sources than previously possible. This could help medical professionals confidently determine the most likely diagnosis and treatment options.

In addition, IBM has licensed access to the Watson technology to Nuance.
