Chicagoland’s ‘Most Expensive’ Mansion Flooded With 6 Million Gallons Of Water

One of the Chicago area's most opulent mansions is now uninhabitable.

WBBM's Regine Schlesinger reports it was flooded by millions of gallons of water.

It's known as the Villa Taj, something of a landmark at Plainfield and County Line Roads in Burr Ridge.

Built on 4 1/2 acres by a dentist who's since moved away, the home has never been lived in and has been on the market since 2009.

At one time it was listed for $26.5 million dollars—making it the most expensive home in the Chicago market.

Doug Pollock, the village's development director, says a Realtor who arrived to show it to a prospective buyer, discovered that burst pipes had allowed 6 million gallons of water to flood the place.

"The flooring and the walls and all the woodwork appear to be damaged to where they'd have to be stripped down and replaced," Pollock said.

The owner had used the most expensive imported materials: Brazilian cherry wood, Israeli gold limestone and Italian marble. The mansion features a ballroom with a 38-foot-high ceiling and a heated 20-car garage.
