:grum:

OBAMA PC sure to bring hope to your desktop, a tear or two to your eyes
Obama's already inspired a cell phone and an MP4 player, but this is the first desktop we've seen tipping its hat to our Commander in Chief. What's really awesome about this one, of course, is that its makers (Taiwanese company SEED) seemed to think that merely naming the PC "Obama" would result in capturing some of the magic... because other than the name, it's just a plain-old, boring desktop. It packs a patriotic Atom N230 CPU, 2GB of RAM, and a 500GB SATA hard drive, plus it's got four USB 2.0 port and an ethernet port around the back, just to name a few. The presidentially named PC is only available in Taiwan, for the oh so affordable price of NT$7,999 (about $242). We're kind of hoping this is just the first in a long line of POTUS-named PCs for SEED, so may we suggest the next one be dubbed POLK or FILLMORE?

Lars-Göran Nilsson posted an article stating he found a small form PC in a local Taiwan store. The store, called Seed, is offering the Obama PC as a low-end solution. The PC isn't impressive in specification, or looks, but is sold at a lower price. The PC is built with a Mini-ITX form factor motherboard based on the Intel 945GC chipset, paired with an Intel Atom 230 processor. Also included is 2GB of RAM, a 500GB SATA hard drive, and a DVD burner(looks to be a Lite-On).

The PC offers two PS/2 ports, a printer port, serial, D-sub, 4 USB 2.0 ports, an 10/100Mbit Ethernet port, three audio jacks(most likely audio out, microphone, and line-in). The PC does have a small space for expansion, a single expansion slot for a PCI card. Which is mounted below the motherboard. The front bezel has 2 USB 2.0 ports and an audio and microphone jack. Also, above the DVD burner is a 3.5" bay for an additional media card reader, or another hard drive.

This system retails for NT$7,999 which is about ?178 (£162/$242), and seems quite affordable. Although ?22 more would buy you an Asus Eee Box in Taiwan, not much of competition.
