The 2010 IS 250C and IS 350C give you the best of two worlds.
The Lexus IS 250 and IS 350 Sport Sedans have been a hit with drivers who like some spice with their luxury. Coupe and convertible buyers, however, have been left only wishing Lexus would offer IS models in their preferred body styles. Until now.
You don’t become the number one luxury brand by ignoring your customers. The all-new IS 250C and IS 350C models, arriving in Lexus dealerships, each gives you essentially two cars in one: The “C” could stand for convertible or coupe because a retractable hardtop roof makes each of these models both.
In its “relentless pursuit of perfection,” Lexus designed an IS coupe that transforms into a convertible with a three-panel roof that opens in just 20 seconds. Why not a traditional soft top? The fact is, with a soft top, you give up more than you get. In contrast, a retractable hardtop can be quieter and more secure and can be better at sealing out less-than-ideal weather. The IS C is a real coupe when you want and a full convertible whenever you choose.
The “250” in IS 250C is for its 2.5-liter 204-hp V6 engine. The IS 350C gets a more potent 3.5-liter 306-hp V6. Both of these new retractable hardtop models deliver sporty handling and response like their sedan siblings.
The IS 250C starts at an MSRP of $38,490 with a sporty six-speed manual transmission. The IS 250C with a six-speed automatic transmission will be $39,660, and the IS 350C (automatic only) will have an MSRP of $43,940.
Although retractable hardtops are becoming more common, Lexus has applied some uncommon technology and features. After all, Lexus offered the first retractable hardtop in the premium-luxury segment with the SC 430, so it knows a thing or two about engineering one of these cars.
The IS C models’ three-panel roof, for example, is made from lightweight aluminum to help it close smoothly and quietly. A unique roof-brake slows the closing roof panels as they approach the windshield, ensuring a smooth closure.

Lexus, of course, is known for a quiet ride, even in sporty models. An acoustic glass windshield and special seals on the roof, doors and window panels help keep the new IS C models hushed on the highway. A sleek aerodynamic design helps minimize wind turbulence in the cabin when the top is down.
Driving a convertible with the top down immediately changes what you feel and what you hear. The Lexus IS C models automatically compensate so you don’t have to. For example, the climate control system adjusts airflow in response to vehicle speed and even the amount of sunlight in the car. A convertible can have a great sound system, but as soon as you lower the top, you lose bass response. The Lexus IS C models automatically adjust the sound equalization.
Lexus paid special attention to rear seat comfort as well. The two rear seats are positioned slightly inboard to maximize room and comfort, and a one-touch feature automatically folds a front seat and moves it forward, making it easier to get in and out of the back.
Like the IS sedans, the IS C models are built to the Lexus standard for safety. Airbag systems are tailored to the convertible body, and dynamic handling systems provide the same level of confidence on the road.
The Lexus IS 250C and IS 350C are the sporty luxury cars for all seasons, and they’re just waiting for you.
