Iranian scientist wins American Physical Society’s award

Dr. Azadeh Keyvani won the award in the applied and industrial physics section and for her success in developing techniques of using AI in fields ranging from Education to research on cancer.

The award is reserved for physicists who do extra-academic work activities.

According to Ms. Azadeh Keyvani, among her extra-activities that helped her succeed in receiving this award are the creation and management of an educational institution whose main goal is to empower students by focusing on the underprivileged in the fields of science and technology.

In addition to educational activities, she is also active in the field of data science and artificial intelligence, focusing on health and medicine.

Sharif University said Keivani is also trying to create fields for early diagnosis of various diseases, including cancer and heart diseases, by producing different models of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Spearheaded by the Iranian Space Research Institute, the Pars 1 satellite’s design, construction, assembly, and testing have paved the way for groundbreaking advancements in space research.

Weighing 134 kg, Pars 1 is part of a series of research-measurement satellites with a focus on functional imaging, advancing the domestic measurement data market, and testing essential technologies for indigenous operational measurement satellites.

Equipped with three imaging cameras capturing ground resources in visible, short-wave infrared, and thermal infrared spectral ranges, Pars 1 boasts impressive capabilities.

The color spectrum and short-wave infrared camera can cover 95% of Iran’s lands in under 100 days, while the thermal infrared camera, operational at night, achieves imaging of the entire territory in less than 45 days.

Pars 1’s missions go beyond imaging, encompassing solar panel mechanism tests, orbit correction with cold gas propulsion, independent position determination without GPS, power management tests, and dosimetry for measuring spacial radiation.

The satellite introduces advanced technologies such as telecommunications links in various frequency bands, positioning sensors, star sensors, magnetometer sensors, and gyroscope sensors.

Iran says receiving ‘perfect signals’ from newly-launched Mahda satellite

The Iranian deputy minister of communications technology says the Mahda satellite, successfully launched into orbit on Sunday, is in ‘perfect health’ and the link is not disrupted.

Hassan Salarieh, the head of the Iranian Space Organization (ISO), in a phone conversation with Iran’s state television on Wednesday, said the satellite, launched along with Keyhan 2 and Hatef 1 nano-satellites, is fulfilling the country’s research objectives.

He said, “Mahda is a telecommunications satellite that has power supply and distribution subsystems. This satellite receives its power from the solar energy.”

Simultaneously sending the three indigenous satellites into outer space on Simorgh-1 satellite carrier for the first time marked a big stride for Iran.

The Iranian space organization head said Iran currently has eight operational and telecommunications satellites in space, adding some of them are reaching the end of their life span.

Iran has put the space sector atop its agenda by developing and launching numerous satellites during the past decades.
