Republican President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden met for the final time before Election Day at Thursday night's presidential debate.
The debate at Belmont University in Nashville, moderated by NBC News White House correspondent Kristen Welker, was a much different affair than the raucous, interruption-riddled first debate in Cleveland.
The interruptions led the Commission on Presidential Debates to use a mute button for the second and final debate. While many had thoughts about the muting option, Welker earned the most praised for moderating the debate.
Trump was given props for being more subdued and focused, while former Vice President Joe Biden was described as sharp. Here's what political pundits, debate watchers and others are saying about the final presidential debate:
Some thought Biden was sharp
The Sleepy Joe meme was always a joke. But Biden is sharp tonight, no question.

A very smart opening by Biden saying “if you remember nothing else, remember this…”
That’s a great debate technique. #Debates2020

Biting.
Joe Biden with a pointed attack on President Trump: "He says we're are learning to live with it. People are learning to die with it."

Great line from Biden: Shut down the virus not the country.
Sharp answer.

Biden nearly passed out when he heard Trump say he takes responsibility #Debates2020pic.twitter.com/BlbxVq2vgv

Biden’s soundbites are much better than Trump’s, but my group doesn’t like Biden’s lack of details.
They are getting really frustrated with the VP. #Debates2020

Many thought the environment favored Trump
Trump won this debate, handily. Biden wasn’t a force at all. Trump was substantive, on-point, well-tempered. Definitely helped himself, when it mattered most.

The different tone is astonishing. So Trump can help himself, at least for a while, it seems.

If the debate ended right now, Trumps debate numbers would be better because of the “mute” button. If he stopped tweeting a similar thing would happen.

First mic shut off of the night. It is Trump. #Debates2020

#Debates2020@realDonaldTrump nails Race issue without calling us a racist nation..he’s right to bring up what he did
— Brian Kilmeade (@kilmeade) October 23, 2020
In the first debate Trump was hyperactive and rude in his lies.
In this debate he is more sedate and less obnoxious in his lies.
But the lies are still lies. #Debates2020

Almost all praised moderator Kristen Welker
Kudos to @kwelkernbc for a job well done tonight, and a service to our nation.
