Pearl Jam is an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990.


The song is sung from the viewpoint of a young man who, while on a date, crashes his father's car when the car stalls, the engine was dead, which causes the man to swerve the car where it hits something mysterious, causing the two of them to faint causing an accident, When he wakes up, it's raining, and does find his girl, who asks him to hold her tight, which they did, before she dies when in the singer's arms, following the titular "last kiss". The refrain affirms his belief that he must lead a "good" life to be reunited with his love in Heaven when he dies.
