Formed in 1976 by bassist Steve Harris, previously of Gypsy's Kiss and Smiler, they are one of the most successful and influential bands in the heavy metal genre, selling over 70 million albums worldwide. Iron Maiden has achieved international fame with its distinctive style of melodic metal. Their blend of heavy metal, highly melodic riffs, and intelligent lyrics have become instantly recognizable. The band is also renowned for their down-to-earth and genuine approach towards their music, their impressive stage shows and their openness with fans.

Stone Temple Pilots (abbreviated STP) was a popular grunge/hard rock band in the 1990's, comprised of Scott Weiland (vocals), brothers Robert (bass) and Dean DeLeo (guitar) and Eric Kretz (drums).
STP's five albums have sold over 17 million copies. The band had fifteen top ten singles on the Billboard charts, including six # 1's, and one # 1 album (1994's Purple). STP won the 1994 Grammy for the "Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal" for their song Plush. In addition to their original material, they have also covered songs by Led Zeppelin, the Doors, and the Beatles. These bands were some of the groups cited by the band as its influences.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a song written by Freddie Mercury, originally recorded by the band Queen for their 1975 album A Night at the Opera. The song has a very unusual musical structure for a piece of popular music, with three very different sections, no chorus, and both a cappella and heavy metal sections. Despite this, it was released as a single, and became a huge commercial success, marking a decisive point in Queen's career, setting them on the way to become one of the worlds biggest bands. The single was accompanied by what is generally cited as a groundbreaking "promotional video", which helped establish the visual language of the modern music video. The song was included in all Queen's subsequent live concert performances, and still enjoys great popularity all over the world.
