We are incredibly lucky to be alive. Michel, I, Lexi, Bo, Betty and Michels relatives all have only superficial injuries.

It started off with a fire at the port, which we first thought was unusual but harmless and I even filmed it, see below!!!
Then it turned into fireworks and in a matter of seconds, EXPLOSION.
I ducked behind our closet and Michel behind a sofa, and then everything just started happening very fast and surreal.

Us examining ourselves to see how injured we are, me running to dogs area on shattered glass to see if dogs are okay (they were outside THANK GOD).

Then us quickly getting dressed and like two scouts getting the essentials and running down 23 flights of stairs, while jumping through fallen down doors and other shrapnel.

Some of our neighbors were not so lucky as us. We lost our home but we are VERY LUCKY to be alive. So grateful. So hurt for all those who lost their family today.

UPDATE: Michel read somewhere what happened:

In 2013 a boat was passing through Beirut port loaded with 2700 tons of ammonium nitrate

The contents were confiscated by Lebanese authorities and stored in a hanger at a port pending legal decision

Upon recent inspection it was found out that the doors to the hanger were removed and part of the wall collapsed

A team of welders was sent to the sure to repair the door . Sparks from the welding process hit a pile of fireworks nearby, which then extends to the highly explosive ammonium nitrate, equivalent to 13000 TONS OF TNT (the size of a small nuclear bomb)

All officials knew of the danger going back 7-8 years and never did anything about it
