Ukrainian Army Expands Use of SxS “Battle Buggies”

The Ukrainian military is expanding its combat use of small and nimble off-road vehicles. At the same time, its battlefield efforts are seeing an ever-increasing variety of those rigs, across a number of types and styles.

On December 9, the Ukrainian Operational Command “South” took delivery of 20 new light tactical vehicles. Those machines, seen here, mirrored the average side-by-side in appearance and function. Like many of Ukraine’s off-road combat vehicles, they were built by volunteers, from scavenged and donated used-car parts.

This shipment of vehicles marks the fourth delivery of this type since spring of 2023. An initial batch of 10 such machines was delivered in March, followed by another 12 examples in early summer and 15 more in August. The group producing these rigs is reportedly engaged in “serial production”—in other words, each vehicle is built to a standard spec, from identical components. Given the paucity of resources in—and the largely improvised nature of—the Ukrainian war effort, that is impressive.
Hundreds of off-road machines of this nature are believed to be in use across Ukraine. Informally referred to as “battle buggies,” they come in multiple shapes and sizes, from repurposed Polaris MRZR Alphas to custom-built sand-rail-style machines like the Ukrainian VOLS. Most have two seats; many are fitted with anti-tank guided missiles or machine guns and used by raiding or hit-and-run teams. Some have even been converted from rally cars, road vehicles modified for off-road competition before the start of the Ukraine-Russia war. Regardless of form factor, they are effective.
“When our tanks go in on an offensive,” a Ukrainian metalworker told GZero Media, referring to an earlier style of buggy, “they come through the ravines and valleys, providing cover and totally knocking out the enemy.”

The Russian army has been known to use similar vehicles, largely in the form of an ATV, the Erofey. Early in the war, lacking more specialized hardware, Ukrainians famously fought Russian tanks with tractors. Proof that, although no two wars in history are the same, they all breed, among suffering, innovation.

выпускать серийно даже такое атстойное кафно, как у тебя, нужно отлаженное производство, компоненты, техническая документация.

лепить машины, которые будут ездить, из гавна, запчастей, как это описано в твоем посте, - нереально.

собрать мотор из хуйзнаитчего - нереально, любой мотор сконструирован так, что для него фиг подберешь необходимую часть, даже простейшие вещи, - втулки, шпильки, маятники, штанги. всё это надо изготавливать индивидуально, это ебанатическое количество работы для мастеров. выпускать такие машины большими сериями не реально.

трубчатая рама

для того чтобы такой опорат не переломился надвое на первой же кочке, нужна не трубчатая рама, а рельеф, обычно делают C-Section.
