Repairing the world through the righteous use of nuclear weapons

By David E. Sarfatti

Let us start with a short history of the 20th century. Einstein discovered his famous equation E = mc2 shortly after the year 1905. Lise Meitner discovered that uranium was capable of unleashing enormous amounts of energy through fission in the mid-1930′s. It wasn’t until 1939 that Leo Szilard, Edward Teller and Eugene Wigner persuaded Einstein to write a letter to Roosevelt warning of the possibility that Germany may be working on an atomic bomb. However, no serious effort was made to win the desperate race until October 1941, just two months before Pearl Harbor, when Roosevelt signed the go ahead order. By July 1945, a successful test was carried out in the New Mexico desert and on August 6, there was Hiroshima and on August 9 there was Nagasaki. The entire project took less than four years, and this while the U.S. was engaged in a war on two fronts.

Now let us imagine an alternate history. The Meitner results were known to many physicists by 1936-1937. Let us say that Einstein penned the Roosevelt letter in 1937, and that the president fully activated the Manhattan Project shortly afterwards. This is an entirely plausible scenario. Now, if we accept the same four-year development time, a nuclear bomb could have been tested by late 1941. How might the history of the 20th century then played out?

Everyone knew that the United States and Japan would clash sooner or later owing to the murderous Japanese rampage throughout China and their clear territorial ambitions in the Asian Pacific. The where, Pearl Harbor, and the when, December 7, were the only unknowns. Hitler had already unleashed war throughout Europe and mass killings of Jews began in 1939 with invasion of Poland. The killings accelerated with the invasion of Russia in June 1941 with the Einsatzgruppen, and the full-scale industrial annihilation of the Jews was soon codified at the Wannsee Conference in January 1942. Churchill and Roosevelt were fully cognizant of all of these plans in detail.

The subsequent events, of course, are known to all. Six million Poles killed including 3 million Polish Jews; the nearly entire destruction of the the Jews of the rest of Europe (in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary and Greece virtually every Jew); 20 million Russians killed including most of the Jews in Ukraine, Byelorussia, and the western USSR. The Germans caused a swath of near total destruction of every village, town and city in their path. Cities were leveled throughout the continent and most especially the German cities. In Hamburg, Dresden and Berlin hundreds of thousands were killed with incendiary bombings. And lastly, the Final Solution killing centers in Belzec, Treblinka, Chelmno, Birkenau, Majdanek and thousands, (yes thousands !!), of smaller German-operated murder factories were exposed, which even now are not yet fully documented, with new ones still being uncovered.

In Asia, we still do not know the full extent of Japanese murders in China. Ten million is a minimal estimate. And ultimately the Japanese paid a heavy price. Tokyo was fire-bombed and perhaps 150,000 were killed over two nights in March 1945. Hiroshima and Nagasaki followed. Many thousands of American Marines and sailors died on an archipelago of death with names like Tarawa, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The Japanese defenders died to a man in most cases. The kamikazes killed and wounded thousands of sailors and sank many ships. Without Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a land invasion of Japan would have been necessary with the loss of hundreds of thousands of Americans and perhaps 2 million Japanese military and civilians who would have fought to the death or committed suicide.

Now, let us return to our alternate history. After the atomic bomb test, now re-set to occur in late 1941, Roosevelt, clearly envisioning the horrors to be (remember World War 1), decides to offer the Germans and Japanese a way out. On a moonless night in November 1941, a lone bomber drops an atomic bomb outside of Berlin. The flash is witnessed by millions of Germans and followed up with an ultimatum the next day. “Deliver up the Nazi leadership to British and American hands for trial in London or a German city will be atom-bombed in three days.” The German generals would have carried out a coup within hours with the support of the citizenry. Hitler, Goring, Bormann and Himmler would have been hanged. The same thing could have happened outside of Tokyo. “Deliver up the Emperor and the War Cabinet within 3 days .” The emperor would have been spared, but the War Cabinet would have hanged.

This brings us to today. An atomic bomb must be dropped outside of Tehran on a moonless night, and an ultimatum delivered to Iran. “Deliver up Khamenei and the mullah leadership for trial within 3 days.” This is the only way out for the world from the nuclear dilemma posed by Iran. Any alternate history will be infinitely more tragic
