New Passport Fees - Effective July 13

You'll be shelling out more for a passport starting Tuesday.
The cost of a new passport book will increase from $100 to $135, while the cost to renew a passport will go up $35 to $110.
A wallet-size passport card, which you can use on certain trips closer to home, would rise from $45 to $55. The fee for minors goes up $20 to $105.
You'll need a passport if you are traveling out of the country.
AAA Mid-Atlantic suggests you apply Monday to avoid the higher fees.
If you plan to apply for a passport, you'll need a certified birth certificate and a valid government issued photo identification card, such as a driver's license. When filling out the forms, use black ink. AAA says sometimes blue isn't dark enough to scan and the application gets rejected.
