A smart toilet? Yes, there is such a thing!

Imagine walking up to a toilet and the lid automatically opens. When you are done with your business, the lid automatically closes and the toilet flushes. Oh but wait, there’s more.

The seat warms itself using various temperature settings that can be adjusted via remote control.

A washlet is included (think of a bidet) that can be used in the front or rear, and also used in “soft” mode.

Includes an automatic air purifier.

Хотя тоже есть удачное "футурологическое" сочетание романтики и функциональности.

Smart toilet seat
Document Type and Number:
United States Patent 7216374

Abstract:
A multi-function toilet seat having a body including an oval and arcuate shaped portion, defining an ergonomically configured upper surface and an open interior. A rear portion interconnects opposite extending ends of the arcuate shaped portion. A fluid inlet plug extends from a first location associated with the body and communicates with a plurality of succeeding and interior extending passageway channels. The channels communicate in turn with a plurality of spray nozzles located at spaced locations along an inner defining surface of the seat. A suction outlet extends from a second location associated with the body and communicates with an exhaust motor incorporated into the rear portion. A plurality of exhaust apertures extend along spaced inner locations of the seat and evacuate an airflow from within an associated toilet bowl interior and through the suction outlet.

"These are ideas that in a few years, we'll be able in some way to sell," Matsushita spokesman Wilson Solano said. "This is market potential."

The products aren't even priced yet, and are slated for the year 2005 or beyond.

Meager Japanese houses are infamous for their paper-thin walls and tight quarters. Floor space averages only 32 square metres, half that of an American house.

But what they lack in size, some try to make up in smarts.

Toilets flush by remote control and have motorized seats that adjust to your height. Lights are primed to switch on when someone walks in a room, and an increasing number of homes log on with high-speed Internet access to the rest of the world.

Health "Smart" Home: Information Technology for Patients at Home
http://www.liebertonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1089/15305620260507530
This article reviews the emerging concept of health "Smart" homes (HSH) and its potential through the use of telemedical information systems and communication technologies. HSH systems provide health care services for people with special needs who wish to remain independent and living in their own home. The large diversity of needs in a home-based patient population requires complex technology. Meeting these needs technically requires the use of a distributed approach and the combination of many hardware and software techniques. We also describe the wide scope of new information, communication, and data-acquisition technologies used in home health care. We offer an introduction to the HSH concept in terms of technical, economic, and human requirements. Examples of HSH projects are presented, including a short description of our own smart home and telehealthcare information system project.

When Good Toliets... Go BAD!
Frankley; state not known new
A plumber working on a house in Frankley was trapped on Thursday by an electric toliet, whilst trying to repair it.

Paul Sanders was fixing a disabled toliet in Frankley on Thursday at around 1015 BST when his leg flipped a switch causing his neck to become wedged in a motorised section of the device. Northfield fire station officer, Martyn Price said Mr Sanders was "lucky" as his head could have been crushed. "He was just leaning over through the frame, cutting a pipe at the back of the toliet when his leg accidentally touched the up switch," he told the BBC's News Online service.

"It just ascended and trapped him around the neck. "

Mr Sanders was taken to Selly Oak hospital by ambulance, with a suspected broken neck.

Linux Is In Your Bathroom, Flushing Your Toilet
Oxer is in the process of building a new bathroom that is completely automated using Linux. Everything in the new bathroom is computer controlled or sensed. The window winders will be electric, as will the curtains. Sensors will include ambient light, humidity, temperature, motion, door position, toilet flush, water flow, flowing water temperature, bath water temperature and anything else he can think of...
