EVERSON TOUTS RECORD HIGH ENFORCEMENT NUMBERS FOR 2005 FISCAL YEAR

IRS Commissioner Mark W. Everson announced record enforcement results for fiscal year (FY) 2005 at a November 3 press conference at IRS headquarters in Washington, D.C. He reported that audits of high-income taxpayers, corporations and small businesses jumped dramatically in 2005, "reaching the highest level in years for individuals and corporations."

Release of the Commissioner's Statement on 2005 Enforcement and Service Results underscores the theme of stepped-up enforcement that Everson has been hammering home in public addresses throughout the past several months. Release of the statement follows by exactly one week another IRS press conference in which Everson announced an aggressive enforcement strategy for tax-shelter transactions that includes a global settlement initiative for taxpayers involved in any of 21 abusive transactions. The latest results highlighted the efforts made by the IRS in FY 2005 that ended on September 30.

Everson’s statement underscored the high points of the IRS’s efforts in 2005, as set forth in the report. He said that the IRS has collected over $43 billion in revenues and increased audits by 20 percent over 2004. The audit reports show that the IRS has been ramping up audit efforts on higher income individuals, small businesses, and large corporations. Despite praising these numbers, Everson warned that the upward swing needs to continue, adding that, in the case of higher income individuals, the 1.58 percent audit rate was still too low. Everson emphasized that the enforcement efforts have not been at the expense of the IRS’s strides in customer service. He applauded IRS employees, noting that, in 2005, more that half of all individual returns were filed electronically. Telephone service rose to 83 percent, and the IRS’s toll-free tax law service had an accuracy rate of 89 percent. Most notably, Everson said, the taxpayer satisfaction rating for 2005 reached a record 95 percent.

А [higher income] - это скока? (трясется)

IRS не уточнило что считать higher income , но я думаю это с доходом около $200,000. При таком доходе обычно сложно списывать itemized deductions ,начинаются всякие ограничения.
